We had the opportunity to take in Cucina’s offering and it was a treat! This cozy bistro-style eatery is conveniently located on 8 Ave. S.W. and it was bustling on a Friday night, alive with conversation, laughter and the afterglow of some great wine. Start off, of course with your favourite cocktail. We had the Aperol Spritzer, because, well, when in Rome.
The prix-fixe menu, at $50, began with grilled focaccia toast with burrata, roasted heirloom tomatoes and chili oil. Crisp toast and creamy burrata were complemented by tangy tomatoes and sweet sprouts for a delicious appetizer.
The chef followed up with grilled Canada prime beef sirloin with mustard and thyme smashed fingerling potatoes, summer squash, snap peas and an avocado and cilantro crema. This dish offered the best of summer with crisp, colourful vegetables, zesty potatoes and, of course, beautifully done sirloin in medium rare. We topped off the meal with a vanilla panna cotta tart with roasted strawberries and basil sprouts. A wonderful finish to a great meal. Don’t forget to check out their wine list too and have a Cappucino to cap off the evening.
Summer Feast runs until August 25.
