Food is like a ninth member of the team for unique Calgary company

Julia Childs said a party without cake is just a meeting. If you ask Jessica Bowen of Canary Consignment, a meeting without food, just isn’t worth going to. One of eight founders of an innovative, Calgary-based online consignment space for high-end and designer jewelry, Bowen is the first to ensure everyone on their all-woman team is fed.

“When I host meetings at my house I always serve something to go with them,” she says. I paired an inventory discussion with homemade quiche (carmelized onion and bacon and a gruyere and mushroom). A homemade wonton soup with extra bok choy and ginger made a legal meeting much more pleasant. And then there were the beef empanadas, which accompanied tracking conversations.”

In celebration of lovecanary.ca’s May 6 launch, CIty Palate brought the flock together for the a propos 24-Karat Sundae at Made by Marcus on 17th Ave. The flock dished about sous-vide egg bites at their morning Starbucks meetings and half-price happy hour wine at Original Joe’s for some after-hours strat sessions. Of course, nothing beats Bowen’s home-made treats.

“I love how food brings people together and creates a sense of community and shared experience,” she says.
